Since 1979, the Dos Santos family has ruled over Angola, Africa’s second largest oil producer after Nigeria. After nearly three decades of civil war, the country is posting high high growth rates – in large part due to its vast oil wealth.

Launched in October 2012, the country’s Fundo Soberano de Angola (FSDEA) – the country’s sovereign wealth fund – is intended to leverage the country’s oil wealth towards development, in a country where 67.4 percent of the population still lives on less than $2 a day.
