Zainab Ashadu is the Founder of Zashadu. Zashadu is a leading British/Nigerian sustainable luxury brand, that specializes in hand-crafted leather pieces.

Zashadu pieces are created in Lagos, Nigeria, by a team using traditional techniques passed down through generations by a community of local artisans from Northern Nigeria. Zashadu works with material sourced and treated locally in Nigeria.

In June 2014, Zainab Ashadu was a finalist for the 2014 FEED Most Socially Responsible Handbag, part of The Independent Handbag Designer Awards (IHDA) series.

Zainab Ashadu has a diverse background encompassing Curatorship, Architecture, Acting, and Fashion Styling. She holds a BA Hons in English Literature and Modern Drama Studies from Brunel University, London.

Luxury leather handbags from Zashadu

Zainab started her career as an actor in London, then moved into Architecture, where she explored the spatial relationship between geometry and fluidity. Her passion for creating handbags started when she was just eight years old, when she fell in love with a clutch bag belonging to her mother.

Zainab has since honed her craft at handbag creation, including a stint at the London College of Fashion. From 2009-2012, Zainab was Curator at the African Artists’ Foundation in Lagos, Nigeria.

Zainab Ashadu lives and works in Lagos, Nigeria.
