Tanzanian Economy Increases by Almost a Third After Rebasing

The size of Tanzania’s economy increased by almost a third after the East African nation factored its expanding industries such as oil, gas and telecommunications into the calculation, Finance Minister Saada Mkuya Salum said.

The country’s gross domestic product stood at 70 trillion shillings ($41 billion) last year, up from a previous estimate of 53 trillion shillings, Salum told reporters today in the commercial capital, Dar es Salaam. The base year for the calculation was revised to 2007 from 2001.
