Nigeria‘s Diamond Bank disclosed on Wednesday that Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe has retired as the Chairman of its Board of Directors. Achebe’s retirement was approved at a recent board meeting.
Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe was born in Onitsha on May 14th, 1941 and he is the Obi of Onitsha.
Diamond Bank disclosed Achebe’s retirement in a notice to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), dated January 13th, 2015. The notice was signed by Diamond Bank’s Company Secretary & Legal Adviser, Nkechi Nwosu.
The noticed, titled “Change in Directorate-Resignation and Appointment of Chairman, Board of Directors”, also announced the appointment of a Non-Executive Director, Dr. Chris Ogbechie, as the new Chairman of Diamond Bank’s Board of Directors.
“We wish to inform you that the Board of Directors of Diamond Bank, at its meeting held on November 29, 2014, approved the retirement of Igwe Ugochukwu Nnaemeka Achebe, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bank effective December 31, 2014. In his stead, the Board unanimously approved the appointment of Dr. Chris Ogbechie, a Non-Executive Director, as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Diamond Bank, with effect from January 1, 2015.”
Dr. Chris Ogbechie, Diamond Bank’s new Chairman, has a first class honors degree in Mechanical Engineering from Manchester University and an MBA from Manchester Business School. Ogbechie has wide experience in Marketing and Strategy derived from his work as Head of Marketing & Sales at Nestle Nigeria, Xerox, and from his consulting work with Nigerian firms over the years.
Chris Ogbechie has been involved with work on several startups and he is on the boards of several companies. Ogbechie is a faculty staff of the Lagos Business School, where he teaches Strategy and Corporate Governance.
