MainOne and IHS win infrastructure company (InfraCo) licenses in Nigeria for Lagos and North-Central zones respectively

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced MainOne Cable Company and IHS Communications as the successful bidders of Infrastructure Company (InfraCos) licences for Lagos and the North Central zones respectively.

The licensing of five other InfraCos for the remaining geo-political zones of the country should be completed before the end of the year, the regulator said. The InfraCos are expected to further drive penetration of broadband and fast track Nigeria‘s 30 percent penetration target by 2018, The Guardian reported.
