Nigeria is PayPal’s second largest market in Africa, says Malvina Goldfeld, PayPal’s Head of Business Development in Sub-Saharan Africa.
“We are very happy to see that PayPal has been widely-welcomed by Nigerians since the launch of the service in the country last year,” Malvina Goldfeld said.
“There are millions of people in Nigeria who are eager to engage in online commerce and our goal is to help them make payments more easily and securely. Currently, we offer Nigerians the opportunity to register for free for a PayPal account to make payments on overseas websites,” she said.
“Over time, we plan to expand our service offering in Nigeria to include services that will lead to better experiences in online and mobile payment methods in Nigeria,” Goldfeld added.
Currently, PayPal’s services in Nigeria are limited to enabling Nigerians to make payments abroad. The ability to receive payments in Nigeria via PayPal are currently unavailable, even though there has been widespread expressed demand for this PayPal service. Malvina Goldfeld did not specify when the ability to receive payments in Nigeria will be available on the PayPal platform.
“Nigeria is a very interesting market and over time we may expand our presence, but for now we are satisfied to help Nigerians register for free for a PayPal account and make payments on overseas websites,” Goldfeld said.
