Private equity firm Emerging Capital Partners names Seyi Owodunni as Nigeria MD

Private equity firm Emerging Capital Partners (ECP) said it appointed Seyi Owodunni as Managing Director of its Nigeria office.

Owodunni will be based in Lagos and work with the local team to source and secure investment opportunities, the company said.

He joins from Kingdom Africa Management where he was Partner and spearheaded the group’s expansion in West Africa, including the opening of its office in Lagos.

Owodunni has been the Chief Financial Officer of Starcomms Plc, a telecommunications operator in Nigeria. He has also worked at Kayode Owodunni & Co (Chartered Accountants), Lucent Technologies Inc, and KPMG.

Oluwaseyi (Seyi) Owodunni is a Managing Director of Emerging Capital Partners (ECP). With seven funds and over $2 billion under management, ECP is a leading private equity manager focused exclusively on Africa. ECP has seven offices across Africa and over a decade of investing experience in companies operating in over 45 countries on the continent. As a Managing Director, Mr. Owodunni is responsible for identifying, analyzing, and recommending investments, as well as performing due diligence and leading transaction teams.

Seyi joined ECP in February 2015 from Kingdom Africa Management (formerly Kingdom Zephyr) where he was a partner for the Pan-African Investment Partners II fund, a growth-capital private equity fund investing across Africa. Prior to Kingdom Africa, Seyi was the Chief Financial Officer at Starcomms Plc, a Nigerian wireless telecommunications operator that he helped take public on the Nigerian Stock Exchange in 2008. Before Starcomms, he worked at Lucent Technologies in the US in a variety of product manager roles, on mergers and acquisitions and on business development for the Optical Networking Group. He commenced his career after his undergraduate degree at KPMG Peat Marwick in Washington D.C., specializing in financial institutions.

Seyi graduated cum laude from Georgetown University with a Bachelor or Science Degree in Business Administration. He subsequently obtained his MBA from Harvard Business School. Seyi is a Certified Public Accountant (USA) and a Qualified Chartered Accountant (Nigeria). He is a Nigerian citizen.
