The president of soccer’s world governing body, Sepp Blatter, now knows that he can count on a quarter of all available votes when he stands for a fifth consecutive term at the helm of FIFA this spring.
Citing Blatter’s commitment to growing soccer on their continent, the members of the African Football Confederation (CAF) all pledged their votes to him on Tuesday at their annual congress in Cairo.
“His actions in favor of Africa speak for him,” CAF president Issa Hayatou said in his address to the members. “To us, he is still the man of the moment. Dear Sepp, Africa is comfortable having you. Africa stays with you!”
