Nigeria's APC candidate Akinwunmi Ambode wins Lagos state governorship

Nigeria‘s All Progressives Congress (APC), the party of President-Elect, Muhammadu Buhari, retained the Lagos state governorship on Sunday after its candidate Akinwunmi Ambode won 811,547 votes.

Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said Ambode defeat his closest challenger, Jimi Agbaje, of the People’s Democratic Party, by 152,206 votes. The PDP’s Agbaje scored 659,788 votes.

For the first time since the end of military rule in 1999, the Governor of Lagos and the President will be from the same party when they come into power on May 29.
