The shortlist for the Man Booker prize was announced this morning with the top six contending books being selected from the longlist of 13 announced in July.
The two lists were selected from 156 entries.
Among the top six is The Fishermen, the critically-acclaimed debut novel by Nigerian writer Chigozie Obioma.
The six names were announced by Chair of judges, Michael Wood, at a press conference at the offices of sponsor Man Group.
Wood expressed satisfaction at the shortlisted titles, even if coupled with some regret from the ommitted ones.
