South Africa's MTN suffers first high profile casualty over Nigeria fine

Mobile operator, MTN‘s chief executive officer, Sifiso Dabengwa has resigned as a the fallout over a Nigerian fine of $5.2 billion continues to haunt Africa’s largest mobile operator.

In a statement on Monday the mobile operator said its non-executive chairperson and former CEO, Phuthuma Nhleko will step into the position on a temporary basis.

“Due to the most unfortunate prevailing circumstances occurring at MTN Nigeria, I, in the interest of the company and its shareholders, have tendered my resignation with immediate effect,” Dabengwa said in a statement.
