Netflix competitor ShowMax launches in 36 African countries

ShowMax, the video streaming service from emerging markets media giant Naspers, is launching its offering in 36 African markets.

The SVOD supplier is the part of the Naspers group, which also owns the dominant satellite television service in sub-Saharan Africa, DStv, through its subsidiary MultiChoice Africa.

After launching in South Africa in August 2015 – in anticipation of rumoured Netflix’s global expansion into 130 countries that finally occurred in January – ShowMax is taking what is calls “the largest subscription video on-demand catalogue on the continent” to the rest of Africa.
