African countries are welcoming more tourists than ever before

Africa’s tourist spots were some of the fast-growing and popular destinations in the world last year. This is despite setbacks in recent years like the Arab Spring or high-profile disease outbreaks like Ebola. One of the reasons for that growth is an increase in the numbers of Africans traveling within the continent.

Growing at a rate of 6% per year, the total number of international tourist arrivals to Africa more than doubled between 1995 and 2014 as international tourist arrivals to Africa reached 56 million in 2014, a new report by United Nations Conference on Trade and Development shows.
